READY FOR BABY

Well...the time has finally come!!!  I know it's been forever since I've posted, but I guess I have a pretty good reason.  I've been super busy being pregnant and preparing for our new baby girl.  I put the finishing touches on the nursery today which is perfect timing since I have a scheduled c-section tomorrow morning.  Yay!

After all the work we've been doing over the last 9 months I thought I would share my "Modern Bliss" nursery with you.  I had so much fun designing and creating all the fun stuff with my fabric...

I really love how the colors turned out.  I knew I wanted to use the Brights palette of my "Modern Bliss" collection but I didn't want the entire room to be pink.  I decided on pale aqua for the walls and I love it.  The hot pinks and oranges really pop.

Here is my little corner where I'll feed her and read her bed time stories etc.  The wicker chair was handed down from my mom.  I made the cushion cover with the Floral Ditzy print from my "Modern Bliss" collection.  I covered the Ikea cube ottoman with my Floral print  and the lamp shade is covered with my Chevron print.  The frame on the wall is framing the little dress that my mom brought my sister and I home from the hospital in when we were born.  I will be bringing baby Elle home in that same dress.

Here is a closer look at the chair and you can see the boppy on the floor in the background that I covered with my Chevron print.

Here is a closer look at the frame with the dress.  This was a black plastic frame from Ikea that we spray painted white and hung without the glass.

One my favorite parts of the room - my wall of artwork.  I found some amazing art prints on Etsy (2 of which are from my extremely talented friend Aimee Sicuro - check out her Etsy shop called 'weathergirlshop' - she's amazing)

Here is the changing table with a pad cover made from my Floral Ditzy fabric.  I found the vintage doilies and the vintage handkerchief on Etsy and made bunting for the wall.  Above that is an applique of giraffes that I made out of my fabric.

I made a fun wall with embroidery hoops framing my fabric and some tiny birdhouses and butterflies.  I also covered an old dress form with my black and white diamonds print from my "Modern Bliss" collection.

Another one of my favorite things in the room is the pillow that I made for the back of the trunk/bench.  I had to have some fashion things in the room since I am a fashion designer after all and thought this play on words was fitting.  :)

This is for sure my favorite!!!  This was quite the project (just ask my husband).  Hanging and figuring out the layout of the pom-poms and lanterns was pretty tricky and so was making the butterfly mobile, but it turned out too cute.  I love it and I hope baby Elle does too!!

The new and final due date for your comments to win one of 3 fat quarter bundles is Monday, May 20th.  I will announce the 3 winners on Monday.  Best of luck and thanks for your patience and understanding!

TIME FOR A VACATION!

Hello there.  I'm so excited that Spring seems to have finally arrived here in Ohio!  The chilly weather and rain lasted way too long for me.  Luckily, I'm leaving for a beach vacation in North Carolina tomorrow for even nicer weather.  ROAD TRIP!!
With that said,  I'd like to announce the extension of my "Modern Bliss" fat quarter bundle give-away.  I'm extending it for 2 reasons.  The first reason being that I didn't get enough comments from all of you out there.  I've only had 3 comments and I know that there are a lot more of you out there.  Who doesn't want some free fabric?!  The second reason is that because I'm leaving for vacation tomorrow, I wouldn't be able to ship the fabric until I get back anyway.  So...I'm extending the deadline to Monday, May 13th.  So all of you out there that like free stuff, just post a comment and you will be entered into the drawing for 1 of 3 "Modern Bliss" fat quarter bundles.  Yay!

IT'S BEEN SO LONG

Hello, Strangers!  I figured it's about time I post since it's been so long.  I promise I had every intention of posting much more often, but life happens.  I feel bad for disappearing but I do think I have pretty good excuse.  The fact is, I wasn't really feeling very well for awhile.  "Why?" you ask.  Well...

It's because of this little peanut!  I'm guessing many of you can relate.  Thankfully, I am now officially in my 2nd trimester and feeling much more human now.  I'm getting back into the swing of things now and working on some fun stuff.

While I was "out", a lot of other exciting things have been happening.  One of the most exciting things was being highlighted in the latest issue of MOYO magazine.  For those of you who are not familiar, MOYO is a digital publication all about surface design and it's fabulous!  It's very inspirational and informative.  Amy Butler is featured in this issue - she's amazing!

Speaking of magazines and publications, another really fun thing that happened recently is I started seeing ads for my "Modern Bliss" collection.  I've seen a few online on some sewing and fabric blogs, but a few weeks ago I actually found a print ad in the Spring 2013 issue of 'Quilts And More" magazine by Better Homes and Gardens.

I was out shopping with my Mom at JoAnn and we were looking through some of the magazines and "Whoa!" she stumbled across this ad:

We were so excited we both screamed in the middle of the JoAnn store!   YAY!  Of course, we had to purchase several of them!  I'm guessing there might be others, but I haven't seen them yet.  If anyone sees any, please let me know!

Another really fun thing that happened was the installation of my photo mural at the local Houlihan's restaurant.  I mentioned this in a previous post, and now the piece is fully installed and the restaurant is open.  This one is in Upper Arlington, Ohio but there are several more Houlihan's restaurants across the country with this same piece.  It's printed on aluminum which is really cool, but they are also experimenting with printing it on the backside of plexi glass which could be amazing!

This was such a fun project to work on, since I'm also very passionate about photography.  This was the first time I've created a collage of layered photos and drawings and I love doing it!  I think I might have a new addiction.

Another thing that's been going on is the preparation for my Trunk Show at Sew To Speak, here in Columbus.  The dates of the trunk show have changed.  It will now be held the week of June 1st.  If you're local, stop in and check it out.  Sew To Speak is a great shop with lots of fantastic fabrics, patterns and books etc.

Since my debut collection "Modern Bliss" is now officially in stores and I've had many people asking "Where can I purchase it?" I do have a small list of online retailers that carry portions of my collection.  There are 3 color stories to choose from and they all carry different combinations of the prints/color stories.  I don't have a list of brick and mortar stores that carry it, but ask your local shop and maybe they'll order it if they don't already have it.  Here is the list of online retailers:

Lastly, since I can't debut my "Modern Bliss" collection without a fun give away....  Here it is!  I have 3 fat quarter bundles of my "Modern Bliss" collection (1 in each color story).  That means, there is enough for 3 lucky winners!
Brights color story
Caribbean color story
Vintage color story

Enter to win by posting a comment.  I will pull random numbers for all three fat quarter bundles.  (color stories will be chosen at random as well)  The winners will be announced on Friday, May 3rd so get your comments in before then.  Yay!  Good to luck to everyone!

UPDATE

After having disappeared for awhile, I have a quick update for you all and then I will post some fun pics and info later this week.  First of all, if you live in Columbus and want to stop in to Sew To Speak during my trunk show, please note that the dates have changed.  Unfortunately, they were unable to get all the fabric in store on time for the original April 6th-12th dates.  (which might be a good thing if RK had to re-order my fabric - not sure)  The new date will most likely be in the beginning of July, but I will keep you posted.
The other quick update that I wanted to share was that I will be having my first give-away soon.  I will be giving away 3 fat quarter bundles of my 'Modern Bliss' collection.  1 in each color palette.  I will formally post all of the info soon.

FUN THINGS COMING...

I know it's been awhile since I've posted.  I've been really busy working on new artwork and a few other fun projects.  One of the things I've been working on is some stationery concepts.  I'm kind of obsessed with stationery and would love to get some of my artwork into that category!  I thought it would be fun to incorporate my fabric from my "Modern Bliss" collection into some croquis illustrations.  (for those of you who don't know what a croquis is, it's a fashion figure drawing)

I've only just started with this.  I hope to do quite a few more.

I'm also trying to get ready for Surtex in May.  I'm so excited (and super stressed) that I made the decision to show at Surtex in May in NYC.  I have a TON of work to do to get ready for that, but I can't wait!

In addition to preparing for Surtex in May, I'm also working on sewing a bunch of samples for my first Trunk Show in April.  If you're local to Columbus, Ohio you'll have to check it out.  This really great shop in Clintonville, called Sew To Speak will be having a Andie Hanna trunk show!!  Yay!!!  How fun is that!?  My mom and my very talented cousin Michelle will be helping me with all of the sewing and crafting.  I will be sure to share some of the items here.  Stay posted for official dates of the trunk show.

Lastly, another crazy cool project I've been working on, that is really different from my print & pattern and illustration, is a photo art piece for Houlihan's restaurants.  Their new restaurants have a modern and somewhat edgy look and most of artwork in them is photos of graffiti and graffiti inspired artwork.  I've had the amazing opportunity to create a very large, mural sized piece made up of photos that I took, pieces of lace, figure drawings and even little doodles that my 5 year old son did.  I had an absolute blast creating it!  The piece will be in 4 new locations: Kansas City, St. Louis, Rogers AK, and Upper Arlington, Ohio.  The actual installation of the Upper Arlington piece is happening tomorrow, so I'll try and get some shots of that to share with you.  (stay tuned)  If you're local and want to check it out, the Houlihan's in Upper Arlington opens on February 25th.  Here is a sneak peak.  (this is only about half of it)

MODERN BLISS IS NOW AVAILABLE!...soon

Well, It's finally official!  My debut collection "Modern Bliss" is now posted on Robert Kaufman's website and will available for purchase soon.  (according to their website it will be available for purchase 'soon') -someone seriously pinch me.  It is currently being sold to stores across the country and will be in a store near you in the coming months.  The next time you're in your local fabric shop, check it out.  If they don't have it, ask for it and maybe they'll order it. (wink wink)  If you like the collection and make anything super fun, send me a photo - I'd love to share you're projects!  I'll be working on some of my own and will be sure to share them with you.

HAPPY NEW YEAR!

HAPPY NEW YEAR EVERYONE!

I had a fun-filled super busy Christmas with my family and friends and now I'm ready to get back to work.  The first thing on my list to do this year is get my basement studio set up.  We have a finished basement full of boxes that needs cleaned out, organized and painted so I can set up a better workspace.  Of course I will share before and after photos and everything in between along the way.  I've got quite a lot of furniture to paint and upholster in my "Modern Bliss" collection which will be fun.  And now that "Modern Bliss" will be available in the coming weeks and I can start some fun sewing projects and have some give-aways!  (so stay posted)
